Viking 56k Help

From Kris at Exec-PC technical support:

This is from Viking component's web page FAQ at: http://www.vikingcomponents.com/support/modemtfaqs.html

What modem strings would I use with the Viking Components Lucent Technologies chipset modem to force the connection protocol to one that is compatible with my ISP's equipment?

You can add the string: AT&FW2-V90=0S37=19S38=14 to the Extra Settings line in the Control Panel / Modems / Properties / Connection / Advanced window. "W2" indicate the DCE rather than the estimated DTE connection rate, "-V90=0" will disable V.90, "S37=19" sets the K56Flex upstream rate to 33,600, and "S38=14" sets the K56Flex downstream rate to 56,000. This is a means of forcing the 56Flex protocol to be used.

To disable K56Flex and force the V.90 protocol to be used you would use the string: AT&FW2-V90=1S38=0

You can also use the string: AT&FW2-V90=0S38=0 to force a V.34 (28.8/33.6) connection to see if the modem will connect without using 56k connectivity. This will indicate whether the phone lines may be the cause of not being able to connect. If you can connect at 28.8 but not at the higher 56K protocols, the phone lines will most likely not support high-speed connections.

What modem strings would I use with the Viking Components Rockwell / Conexant chipset PCMCIA, External Serial port, and ISA modem to force the connection protocol to one that is compatible with my ISP's equipment?
The W2 in the below lines will force the modem to display the DCE connection rate.

V.90 Preferred, K56Flex Enabled: AT&FW2+MS=12,1
V.90 Only, K56Flex Disabled: AT&FW2+MS=12,1,34667,56000
K56Flex Preferred, V.90 Enabled: AT&FW2+MS=56,1
K56Flex Only, V.90 Disabled: AT&FW2+MS=56,1,34000,56000
Disable Both K56Flex and V.90, 28.8/33.6 Only: AT&FW2+MS=11,1

What modem strings would I use with the Viking Components Rockwell / Conexant chipset USB External modem to force the connection protocol to one that is compatible with my ISP's equipment?

V.90 preferred is: AT&F+MS=V90,1
56K preferred is: AT&F+MS=K56,1
V.34 ONLY is: AT&F+MS=V34
